Mommy's Not An Octopus
Mommy's Not An Octopus
Inspired by a real moment between a mother, her young daughter, and a very wise dad, Mommy’s Not An Octopus is a whimsical, heartfelt story that captures the beautiful chaos of modern motherhood.
Mommy has two hands—but a lot more to handle! Between wrangling a toddler, answering a preschooler’s endless questions, juggling work meetings, and running a small business, she’s often pulled in a dozen directions at once. When her daughter hears, “Mommy’s not an octopus—give her some space!” she begins to understand that Mommy’s love is endless… but her energy isn’t.
Through gentle storytelling and playful watercolor-style illustrations, readers follow the moment of discovery when the older child realizes she can be part of the solution—offering her own two hands to help out. By pitching in, she not only lightens Mommy’s load, but also helps her mom continue to meet her own needs with care and calm.
This debut book is a loving wink to overwhelmed parents and a fun, relatable way to help children build empathy, patience, and pride in helping out—one hug (or tiny helping hand) at a time.

My kids loved this book and I as a mom truly enjoyed it. We are all doing our best and this book reflects that journey.
Beautiful story, beautiful illustrations. Can’t wait to give my granddaughters this book!
My creative daughter wrote a great book!
This story is imaginative, sweet, and wonderfully illustrated. A favorite for adults & kids alike - keeping kids engaged while offering meaningful themes. It’s a heart-warming book that you’ll return to again and again.
From watching the idea of this book be born into the story it is today, it’s been an honor being along for the journey. I’m so impressed by how Emily is able to pull together the chaos of motherhood with littles into a sweet story that both kids and adults can learn from. The story is lovely and catchy, the illustrations are beautiful, and the activities are fun for the whole family. This is a memorable book that will always be relevant to its audience - mothers that are trying their best to be the best for everyone in their lives by doing all.the.things!
